What we do

From opportunity to implementation.

Great businesses and projects require more than one service — regulatory expertise, technical capability, capital, people, market intelligence and project execution. Insika Group brings these capabilities together through a connected ecosystem of specialist divisions, so a business idea, an energy project or a mining opportunity can move all the way to implementation.

The Insika model

We connect the pieces.

Regulation. Capital. Technical expertise. People. Opportunity. Markets. Each is handled by a specialist division — together they form a single connected pathway that carries a project from concept to implementation.

Capabilities in detail

Project development, energy, infrastructure and capital advisory across Southern Africa

Energy and petroleum

We support independent power producers, fuel wholesalers and industrial energy users from concept through to operation: solar PV and hybrid feasibility, electricity wheeling structures, generation and trading licence preparation, petroleum wholesale and storage licensing, compliance frameworks and offtake negotiation. Every workstream is built to survive regulator, lender and technical due diligence.

Infrastructure and engineering

Insika Infrastructure and Insika Projects deliver technical scoping, design coordination, procurement support, contractor management and construction oversight for grid connections, substations, water, bulk services, industrial facilities and civil works — with programme, cost and safety governance applied consistently across every market we operate in.

Capital and transaction advisory

Insika Capital prepares projects for institutional capital: financial modelling, capital structuring, information memoranda, data-room preparation, development finance institution and commercial lender engagement, and investor readiness reviews. We do not promise funding; we make the funding case defensible.

Market entry and business establishment

Insika Africa handles company registration, licensing, tax and regulatory onboarding, local partner identification and operating-model design across South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique — so a new market becomes an operating entity rather than an intention.

Mining and resources services

Insika Mining supports permitting and compliance pathways, technical partner sourcing, contractor and supply-chain structuring, and community and environmental obligations for junior and mid-tier operations across the region.

Skills, training and enterprise development

Insika Academy builds the operating capability projects need after financial close: regulatory literacy, project management, health and safety, technical fundamentals and enterprise development programmes designed around real project requirements rather than generic curricula.

Insika Group works with independent power producers, fuel and energy traders, industrial and mining operators, municipalities and state entities, development finance institutions, private investors and international companies entering Southern Africa. Because regulation, engineering, funding and delivery sit inside one group, a project moves between disciplines without losing context — which is usually where timelines and budgets are lost.

Common questions

Before you get in touch

How do I know which division I need?

Most projects touch more than one division. Start a conversation describing your business or project and our team will route you to the right specialists — you don't need to work out the structure yourself first.

Does Insika guarantee funding or licence approval?

No. Insika Capital and Insika Consulting help clients prepare stronger, properly documented applications and funding propositions, and facilitate engagement with regulators and capital providers — but approval decisions rest with the relevant regulator or funder.

Do you work outside South Africa?

Yes. Insika Africa supports structured market entry across Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique, with additional markets evaluated according to opportunity and local capability.

What is electricity wheeling, and can Insika structure it?

Wheeling uses an existing distribution or transmission network to move electricity from an independent generator to an offtaker elsewhere on the grid. Insika Energy assists with feasibility, network and metering requirements, wheeling and offtake agreements, and the licensing and registration steps required by the network owner and the regulator.

What is required to enter petroleum wholesale in South Africa?

A wholesale licence application supported by company and tax documentation, storage and logistics arrangements, compliance, health and safety documentation, and a credible supply and offtake plan. Insika Consulting prepares and packages the application and supports engagement with the regulator.

What does an initial conversation cost?

An initial conversation to understand your business or project and point you toward the right next step carries no obligation. Scoped engagements are quoted once we understand what's required.

WHO WE ARE

Building the platform behind Africa's next opportunities.

Insika Group is a multidisciplinary business, advisory and project-development group focused on regulated industries, infrastructure, energy, investment and business development.

We believe that many businesses fail to progress not because opportunities do not exist, but because regulation, capital, technical expertise, people and opportunity are disconnected. Insika was built around connecting those elements — spanning licensing, compliance, engineering, renewable energy, electricity, construction, project development, capital readiness, training, intelligence and African market expansion.

In practice, that means a client rarely deals with a single Insika division in isolation. A mining opportunity brings in prospecting rights, environmental authorisation, water-use licensing, infrastructure design and, eventually, capital. An energy project brings in engineering feasibility, regulatory advisory, construction delivery and funding preparation. Rather than asking clients to assemble and manage that team themselves, Insika assembles it internally and coordinates it as one engagement.

Mission

To connect businesses and opportunities with the regulation, capital, technical expertise, people and relationships required to build sustainable enterprises and projects.

Vision

To become a leading African platform for business establishment, project development, technical advisory, infrastructure and investment connectivity.

FAQ

Questions about the Group

Is Insika Group a single legal entity or a group of companies?

Insika operates as a group of specialist divisions coordinated under one Group strategy. Where a service requires a specific professional registration, licence or accreditation, it is delivered by, or in partnership with, the relevant qualified and registered party — see the note on our Divisions page.

How is Insika different from a single-service consultancy?

Most regulated projects need more than one type of expertise — regulatory, technical, financial and sometimes training or market intelligence. Insika brings those capabilities together under one coordinated engagement rather than requiring clients to manage several separate suppliers.

Can I work with just one division?

Yes. Clients are welcome to engage a single division — for example, Insika Academy for a training programme, or Insika Consulting for a single licence application — without needing a Group-wide engagement.

How do I apply for a role or partnership?

Use the contact form and select "Business establishment", "Partnership" or describe the career opportunity you're interested in — our team will route your enquiry to the right division.

FAQ

Questions about our divisions

Do I need to contact each division separately?

No. Describe your business or project once through the contact form and our team will bring in whichever divisions the project actually requires.

Can divisions work together on one project?

Yes — this is the normal way Insika operates. Most engagements of any size involve two or more divisions coordinating on a single timeline, such as Insika Green and Insika Capital on an energy project, or Insika Consulting and Insika Consulting Engineers on a mining opportunity.

How long does a typical engagement take?

It depends heavily on the service — a single licence application may take weeks, while a full project from feasibility to financial close can take many months. We provide a realistic timeline once we understand the scope.

FAQ

Questions about our footprint

Does Insika have a physical office in every focus market?

Insika Africa works through a combination of local representation and partnerships rather than a full office in every market, allowing us to scale presence to the size of the opportunity in each country.

Can Insika support a market not on this list?

Additional African markets are evaluated on request according to opportunity size and the local capability we can bring to bear — get in touch to discuss a market not shown here.

Do industry requirements differ significantly by country?

Yes — licensing regimes, environmental requirements and institutional structures vary considerably even between neighbouring countries, which is why Insika Africa's regulatory mapping is scoped per country rather than assumed to be uniform.

How submissions are reviewed

What happens after you submit a project

01

Initial screening

We review the basic details of the opportunity — sector, location, stage of development and what's being requested.

02

Fit assessment

We check the opportunity against our current focus markets, sectors and division capacity.

03

Scoping call

If there's a fit, we schedule a call to understand the opportunity in more depth and identify which divisions are relevant.

04

Proposal

We provide a scoped proposal covering what we'd do, which divisions are involved, and an indicative timeline.

Not every submission proceeds past initial screening — this keeps our attention focused on opportunities where Insika can add genuine value. We aim to respond to every submission, even where it isn't a fit.

FAQ

Questions about submitting a project

What information should I include when submitting a project?

Sector, location, stage of development (concept, feasibility, construction-ready), what you're seeking (capital, partners, technical support) and any documentation you already have.

Is there a minimum project size?

There's no fixed minimum, though very small or purely local projects may be better served by a single division directly rather than a full Group-level opportunity review.

How long does the review take?

Initial screening is typically quick; a full scoping call and proposal depend on how complete the information provided is and how many divisions need to be consulted.

Will my project information be kept confidential?

Project information shared with Insika is treated as confidential and used only to assess and, where relevant, progress the opportunity.

FAQ

Questions from investors

What stage of project does Insika Capital work with?

We work across the spectrum — from a concept that needs a first business case, to a construction-ready project preparing for financial close. Earlier-stage projects typically need more preparation before they're ready to approach funders.

What kind of capital does Insika help access?

Insika Capital helps clients think through debt, equity, development finance and project finance options, and prepares the documentation funders typically require — we do not ourselves act as a lender or fund.

Does Insika take an equity stake in projects?

Insika Capital's role is preparation and facilitation rather than direct investment; any capital arrangement is between the client and the relevant funder or investor.

Can Insika introduce me directly to funders?

Once a project is properly prepared, Insika Capital facilitates engagement with appropriate capital providers as part of the investor-readiness process, subject to applicable regulatory considerations.

FAQ

Before you submit

I'm not sure which division my enquiry belongs to — what should I do?

Just describe your business or project in the message field. Our team routes enquiries to the right division and will loop in more than one if the project needs it.

Can I attach documents to my enquiry?

The form itself doesn't accept attachments — once your enquiry is acknowledged, the relevant team will let you know how to share any supporting documentation securely.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

An initial conversation to understand your business or project and point you to the right next step carries no obligation. Scoped work is quoted once we understand what's required.

GLOSSARY

Terms worth knowing.

Plain-language definitions of the regulatory, technical and funding terms that come up most often across our divisions.

B-BBEE
Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment — a South African policy framework and scorecard used to measure a business's transformation credentials, often relevant to licensing and tender eligibility.
BESS
Battery Energy Storage System — equipment that stores electricity (often from solar) for use later, helping manage peak demand and improve energy reliability.
Cost-of-supply study
An analysis of what it actually costs a utility or municipality to supply electricity to different customer categories, used to set fair and sustainable tariffs.
Development finance
Funding provided by development finance institutions, typically for projects with a strong developmental or infrastructure impact, often on different terms to purely commercial finance.
Due diligence
The review process a funder or investor carries out to verify the facts, risks and value of a business or project before committing capital.
Embedded generation
Electricity generation connected directly into the distribution grid (rather than the high-voltage transmission grid), typically smaller-scale projects like commercial solar.
EMPr
Environmental Management Programme — a plan setting out how a project will manage and mitigate its environmental impacts throughout construction and operation.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
A formal, typically more detailed environmental review required for projects likely to have a significant environmental impact, compared to a Basic Assessment.
Feasibility study
An assessment of whether a proposed project is technically achievable and commercially viable before significant capital is committed.
Investment memorandum
A document prepared for prospective investors summarising a business or project's opportunity, financials, risks and terms.
Mining right
The formal legal right to mine a mineral resource, generally following a prospecting right and granted subject to environmental and social conditions.
Prospecting right
The formal legal right to explore for minerals in a defined area, generally the first regulatory step before a mining right can be applied for.
Social & Labour Plan (SLP)
A plan mining right holders must submit and implement, covering local economic development, employment and community commitments.
Tariff strategy
The approach an electricity provider or large user takes to structuring or negotiating its electricity pricing, informed by cost-of-supply and consumption patterns.
Wheeling
An arrangement that lets an electricity generator and an off-taker (buyer) trade power using the existing grid infrastructure, rather than building a private line.
Water-use licence
Regulatory authorisation required for activities that use, divert or impact a water resource, common in mining, agriculture and industrial projects.
